This is an old wilton bullet that was in my grandfather's shop as long as anyone can remember. We think it was there when he bought the place in the early 50's. He died in 1990 and the place was relatively undisturbed until a tornado ripped the building off the slab a few years ago. It was a Quonset Hut style building made of corrugated metal. Amazingly the contents of the building, primarily tools, were mostly intact. This vice was attached to a welding table that has sat outside since. I rescued it a few weeks ago and cleaned it up.
This one defines "rode hard and put up wet". It has been broken and welded. I think the welds were there when I was a kid, so it has been that way a long time.
It is labeled patent pending, so it was made in late 1941 according to this: http://junkyardtools.com/tool_history/wilton
Wire wheeled, degreased, pressure washed, and wire wheeled again.
I was going to paint it, but i really like the buffed metal. Just spray it with WD-40 occasionally.
