I stopped in a local pawn shop today and they had a 6 1/2" Wilton vise. Looks just like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/WILTON-Trad...2?pt=BI_Tool_Work_Holding&hash=item35d9628a2e This thing is a beast and looks like it hasn't been used much if at all. They are asking $100 for it, does that sound about right? That vise in the ebay listing is a new one and seems really high. Are new ones really going for that much?

can you get any pictures of the vise from the pawn shop either in person or off their website if they have one.

6.5 inches is one of their newer sizes so it might not be made in the US, but it might be a good deal for $100 if it isn't cracked, welded or abused.

That's a really good deal if in good quality. People are willing to pay $100+ for a Craftsman Professional 4" "bullet style" vise

Where are you located?
If you are near me then it's a bad deal...don't get it.
But please tell me where it is

I just called the place and is a 6" not a 6 1/2" vise and they said it is made in USA. Is there a specific place I should look for small hairline cracks forming? Big cracks should be easy to spot.

unscrew the dynamic jaw out all the way and since it's a 6 inch vise when it comes out it won't be light so don't drop it. usually cracks tend to happen around the jaw areas. some times if it was abused there is damage to the slide and on the static jaw where the dynamic slides in if it was dropped.

sometimes you have to rub the grease and grime away a bit to see a crack or weld so don't be shy if it's a dirty vise.

good luck and for $100 you might have a great deal if one of the other guys here doesn't get to it first.

That ebay link is a bit misleading as the 1st pic shows a tradesman vise and the 2nd pic shows a bullet style vise. If it is in good condition, I'd say it is a good deal.

A 6 1/2" would make it a 1765...

The 6" would be a 600...

Either would be a steal at the price...

If it's a swivel base, it will be a 600S...

If you don't buy it...

As Bugs Bunny said, "Of course you know, THIS MEANS WAR!!!"

Oldie, it also could be a 645, 1760 or a 746 even a old Chicago # 6 has 6" jaws.

I went and picked it up this morning. It is not like the vise in the ebay listing I linked to. It is in fairly good condition, a little bit of rust here and there. I don't think it had been used in a long time. The underneath side of the jaws was all covered in spider webs, probably been sitting in a barn for a while. On the one side it is marked 6A. I don't see anywhere on the vise where it indicates made in USA. Is it? Can you all tell me more about what I have here?

Hate to burst your bubble but that's a generic Asian vise branded Wilton. Hope you didn't pay full price.

However it should perform fine if you don't abuse it.
