Its a Wilton 9400. Present value around $150 assuming everything works. Youd be best off keeping it and putting it to use.

People are going crazy for the classic Wilton vises. I'd think you can do better than $150. If you clean it up with some lacquer thinner and shoot it bright red or lime green you might even get $300 for it.

Right now there are four Wilton 9400 vises on ebay. $450.00, $330.00, $225.00, and $190.00.

For what it's worth I sold my last two Wilton vises on my local Craigslist. Didn't have to pay either ebay or paypal fees.

Keep it for sentimental value. (I wish I had some of Grandpa's tools.)

Based on the Chicago designation instead of Schiller Park that is an early Wilton. Probably doesn't increase the value much but I agree worth more than $150. If it was completely restored meaning stripped repainted and everything else polished up nice probably $300 from what I've seen.

Now all that being said......don't sell it. If it was your grandfather's save it for you or your family. You may not have a need for it now but there may come a day when you want to set up a garage for yourself and a quality vise on a solid workbench will be essential to that. Your grandfather made a conscious decision to buy an awesome vise and I'm sure he would have rather sen it stay in the family.

I swear! Does everyone's grandpa pass down a wilton 9400 to their grandkids? Hell I got one too! I would like to sell it but i cant. I don't know why I can't sell it, i just feel like I cant. Nice vise. I say keep it! You can't find vises like these in stores today. You woud have to order one in or find a specialty store. Check this out. This is the equivalent to your vise today

Lemme get this straight: your grandpa is 90, but STILL ALIVE.

If it was me at 90, and I gave my vise to my grandson, and he immediately sold it, I would leave him nothing more. He is done.

Your mileage may vary......

Wow this didn't even occur to me on the original post.
Totally agree! I still have my Grandpas vise. I was gonna restore it and put it on the piano in the house. I can't believe you're gonna sell it off and hes still alive?!?

I don't have a single tool that belonged to my grandfather..
If I were given such a universal tool, of the highest quality, that was also my grandfather's? You best believe it would only ever leave my hands through my own lineage.

This person might not have a need for a vise. A lot of people don't. Or maybe their grandpa was an ****** and they don't want his stuff laying around reminding him/her of bad times. Plus who cares what one person does with their stuff?
Anyway there'd probably be dozens of members from here lined up to buy that vise for $150, only to go throw it on a shelf with "the others." :headscrat:thumbup:
