I trade so tools for this wilton vise. I was wondering how old it is and what color it should be. I am planning on restoring it. Thank You

I don't know all the nuances of Wilton dating, but I'd estimate that to be a late 50's/early 60's C3 or C4

With bolt on from back jaws, safe to assume that is a C3?

Yes
BTW, there is no C4

As far a color goes, I like Rustoleum light blue. But many restorers use Rustoleum Verde Green too. My C1 user is that color.

Here is another C1 that I recently redid. It is the light blue color.

You are probably right. I've never seen a C-4, but read mentions of it such as this:

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=216573

"As far as price, compare it to a new 1745 or 1765 andprice the new parts. If you come in at 50% or less of new, I say it's not a bad deal. For reference, in my part of Oklahoma, I paid $50 for a 1755 that needed new jaws and was missing the cap in the back. But I also paid $40 for a C4 2 weeks later. Put an ad on CL looking for a US made vise. You'd be surprised what you'll come up with."

Maybe the OP was talking about a Reed 4C ??

Yeah, maybe...
I’m going off of personal memory from reading all most every post in the mega vise thread during the past 5 years and also the fact that there is no C4 listed in the big google docs spreadsheet that KMScott and others have been maintaining. Maybe Autopts would give an authoritative answer to the question.

That’s the website for fellow GJ member and master machinist Kevin Scott KMScott

Thanks shift.

You guys know I am retiring from the vise parts building and selling right, I no longer am adding inventory. Then I will be back to sharing in my vise restorations on here that I will do while being retired. Drives me crazy to not be working on vises. One more month, YEA.
