Last week I ordered a set of USA made Wilton 400 series black c-clamps from 2" up to 10". They arrived today but I am disappointed to see inconsistent quality control with those clamps. Some looks perfect to me, other looks like ****. A few of them have quite excessive burrs around the head on the fixed end. Apparently they did not do a good job cleaning up after grinding down the head flat. Also some of raised cast stamping (model no., Made in USA, etc) on the body are missing. Also it looks like the body could have been cleaned up better after they were forged. But the worst part is some spindles are not lined up properly which cause the free swivel head to not line up properly with the fixed head. I check the straightness of the spindle which appear to be ok, so it is the threaded end of the body that is crooked which is causing the spindle to thread away from the fixed head.
I'm not really too impressed with Wilton's quality control, especially after spending good money on those USA made c-clamps. I think they could have done better than those. They also seemed excessively dirty but maybe that is to be expected.
I see that Bessey also have USA made c-clamps too and am wondering if any of you have experienced either of those brand and what your thoughts are on their quality control. I am debating whether to send back those Wilton craps in exchange for USA made Bessey clamps.
