Hello everybody, My handle is wimpy (don't be fooled). just wanted to introduce myself social platitudes etc etc. Now down to business
After having my "Harley" jack fail with my Roadking 3' in the air and having to very carefully devise a nerve-racking way to get it down, I decided to take the actuating part of it apart (AKA bottle jack) this only proved to me that newer bottle jacks are mostly **** parts (plastic rings supporting degrading o rings rubber plugs instead of metal caps etc) So it seams even rebuilding this jack would be a waste of money and would not make it significantly more reliable. Question1 are there any well built reasonably priced new bottle jacks out there(I will pay a little extra for better) Or should I try to find an older jack rebuild it for a much better overall jack? Question 2 witch or what said jacks (brands) would that be? Thankyou all in advance for your responses sorry about the brief intro just a kinda to the point guy.

Ok, Guess info on my page is not part of my signature. So, Orion arm of the Milky Way galaxy, third planet from the sun (Earth) in "Solar System"North American continent,United States of America, Indiana, Evansville, 47711 zip code, and that's as close as your getting . Small attached 2 1/2 (maybe) car garage with one side aggressively defended for my Work Area,Shop,Harley haven, alas the Tacoma resides outside while my wifes Grand Cherokee COMPANY CAR (with remote start, heated steering, heated seats Bitter bitter bitter takes up the other side. But I'm perfectly fine with that.. 60gal compressor, homemade air cooler, working on a paint booth transition. And thats all I can type at one time.

Welcome. I'm a newby too.
Is it one of those cheap Chinese jacks like the one just inside the garage door in the pic? I used one of those for years and had my share of problems as well but not with the cylinder. The glue that holds the rubber pads on mine reconstituted in the hot sun and the bike started to slide off. It was also too tall to fit under my low slung Road King FLHP and I had to ride the bike up a set of boards to get enough clearance for the jack. I always strap the bikes down good while on the jack and even use the chainfall in my garage as a safety precaution. By raising the Solo seat on a FLHP and removing the battery cover it is easy to lift it by the frame.

Hey “didit” Thanks for the tip my jack looks very J&S like that. Having not needed or used a bottle jack regularly or for any duration of time I guess I wasn’t aware how cheap the construction of them had become. Like I said if I could buy one of good quality but in disrepair I would rather rebuild it. At this point I don’t even know what would be considered a quality brand buying new.
