If only my garage had a window to use that with (adding a window is not an option - damn neighborhood covenants and restrictions). I'm starting to envision a plywood panel that would go the width of the overhead door with a cutout for a window unit. When you want a/c on, put the a/c unit in the panel, place the panel and unit under the door. Close the door so that it seals. Turn on the air and let the temperature drop. Take it apart when you don't need air. Obviously this would be something to put up and take down every day but it could work for occassional projects.

Actually I thought about using a window AC under my garage door also. Thought that I would put it on one of those furniture dollies so that it would be easy to roll around out of the way. I'll have to check at Lowe's and see what they have. I bought my ventless heater last spring at Lowe's when they had them discounted for clearance.

I could not live there. It would **** the life out of me.

Do they allow those snazzy plastic garden hose reel boxes? If so, you could gut one and use it to camouflage a low-mounted A/C unit in the wall (suitably secured and ventilated, of course...)

I doubt it. They are quite dictator-like when it comes to the exteriors of homes (duplexes really or paired cottages as the builder calls them) there. I think they actually have someone from the homeowner's association walk through the subdivision from time to time to make sure that the standards are being maintained.

I wouldn't really want to permanently mount one of those on the side of the garage anyway. That would put it right next to the front door or in my neighbor Bob's garage. That wouldn't go over very well with him.

Hey, it was only a suggestion...

I once installed a satellite TV dish under a fake fiberglass rock for a guy in one of those neighborhoods. Even though federal law says he could mount it on his front door if he wants, he was afraid of a confrontation with the HOA.

That looks exactly like the house owned by the guy I bought my truck from. Same corner and everything. I think they made him get rid of the truck because it was too ugly for the neighborhood LOL

I have a new 25x25 10' ceilings in North Carolinia...I insulated and drywalled this summer and you could hang meat in there after a half hour of the 25000 BTU window unit. I just cut a hole in the wall and ran the 220 line.

Just scored a 18,000 BTU LG window unit at Home Depot yesterday. Regularly $349 for $129 out the door.

They must have an unbelievable markup if they can sell it at that price. :headscrat

Well, I'm not complainin.

I found one of these 18k BTU units too, but am concerned if it's big enough. Garage is 32x36, will have r13 walls and r30 ceiling when I finish the inside. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

The specs I found at the store said it was good for 1000 sqft

It may be a little undersized for a big garage like yours. It's my understanding that with A/C it's better to be a little undersized than oversized as it will run longer and remove more of the humidity.:headscrat

I'm no expert but some of the folks here are pretty knowledgable about this stuff. Maybe one of them will weigh in on this for you?

Yeah, the 1k sqft was what I was basing my thoughts on. I'd just hate to cut a big hole in the wall (that's my mounting plan if I were to get one) only to find out next summer that it was too small! Guess I'll stick with my current plan of a mini-split system.
