Window AC/heater vented to eaves?

Dear experts, I bought an older home that has a garage with a small apartment over it. The previous owner installed a wall-thru/window ac into the bedroom wall and a small heater above it. Both are inoperable now so I want to replace them. I'm researching window acs with heater option - 6,000 BTU. However, is it safe to keep this configuration with the venting going out into the eaves? I don't know where the condensation is going out the back. Can I install a tube that sends the condensation out to the opening? Is there a fire hazard with the heater? There is insulation and some storage area out in this eave. Apparently this configuration has worked for the previous owner for years. Thanks.

cmac, I have a friend that attached tubes to several window AC units to direct the condensation away from the side of his house. He never had any problems with the set up. The heater I have no suggestions.
