Hey All,

I'm looking at adding some natural light into my garage and have been tossing the idea around of adding a couple glass block windows. Something like a 12" x 48" vertical rectangle-shape.

Has anyone done this before? I'm wondering what a rough price would be. I would have to knock out existing brick, which could get a bit messy.

Thanks in advance.

Ideally, you'd stick with 8" nominal sizes on the window dimensions, as 8" block are the most common.

Id' highly recommend having them pre-built if you have a company in the area that does so. I'm a mason, and I could never make a living off of laying glass block. You can order them built and banded together for a little more than it would cost you to buy the block and mortar, and you just tip them into the opening.

I'd just buy some more lights & spend my time in the garage doing something that I enjoy. Tearing up a brick wall doesn't sound like a good time.

Follow the advise of joes169. Buy a prebuilt block window. A good glass block shop can make a window to fit your opening. A glass brick window built in a fixture is typically more precise than a window built on site.

Go for it. The results are worth the effort.

We had one of out basement windows replaced with glass block. A friend is in the home improvement biz, and he too suggest one made for the opening.

I don;t recall the price, but I thought it was more than reasonable.

Several companies make prebuilt glass block windows. We have a 4'x4' awning style one that cranks open above one of our tubs.
