So its that time of the year again and everybody is talking about using the plastic sheets that shrink with heat around your windows. The box claims 35% reduction in heat loss from that room. I find this hard to believe. anyone got real world heating bill data how much this helps? I have a huge picture window in the living room. That room seems colder than the other rooms. I'm curious would this make a noticeable difference? there's no drafts, its sealed up tight. its just cold glass i'm assuming.

Try this, I have double pane windows and put the heat shrink plastic on also. Breath on your window on a cold day, it fogs up right ? Breath on a plastic wrapped window, it does not fog up. That tells me it works. Turns the double pane into a triple pane for cheap. I also caulked around the window trim to the wall, amazing how much draft was there. House was built in the early 60s, northern Il. also.

It really depends on how your house was built, how the windows where installed and what type of windows.

If your seeing a major gain by cawlking the trim you should pull the trim off anf spray foam the crack thes most likely not insulated.

The product really works when it's old drafty single pane windows .. I got to be an expert with the stuff on my old gothic double hung units.

Huge difference.
