The new shop has a bunch of eight pane push out opening windows. I need to replace one pane, do i need to allow a glass gap in a metal frame like in wood frames?

If you're using putty to hold the glass pane in place, iirc there's a different type used on metal frames than is used on wood frames.

I would say yes, that what I do because it is a PITA when you get home and the glass is too tight to fit into the frame. I allow for 5mm smaller either way. What I also found great was to use bathroom silicon sealer to attach the glass to the frames and the finish the outside with putty.

Shamelessly I have to admit there are a couple of panes that I haven't got round to the putty part for longer that I care to remember with no issues re coming loose or leaking.
My grandson fell against one of those panes, it broke in pieces to the outside but the edges did not come loose from the impact.
