I have an LG 15K window unit that I installed so that the condensate would drain from the pan (3/4" front to back drop) with the factory supplied drain.

The unit instructions seem to tilt toward allowing the unit to sit level and let the condenser/slinger fan "spray" condensate on the condenser coil for more efficient operation without the factory drain.

I would think that the fan would pick up solids/veg matter from the pan and toss it on the condenser coil if operated in this manner (necessitating more cleaning), not to mention having the unit sit in water when the unit is off.

I would think a slinger fan would create much interior noise and would unnecessarily wear on the fan blades.

Our unit has been in service for 5 summers, and is slid out and cleaned every fall.

Opinions, please.

Noise is minimal, buildup on the coil is the same as when it drains. Efficiency is definitely increased.

My 8K LG works like that, I don't hear it running any louder or different than the 6500 Frigidaire it replaced that didn't cool much at all. The Samsung 10K is also the same, very quiet.
