Window type Heat & Air Conditioning

Building a 700 square foot garage, (25' x 28') for 2 car storage, and a small wood working area.
I would like to have the ability to work year round in the shop...that is why I'm looking into the Window type Heat & Air Conditioning units.
Garage will be Insulated, as will the 18' x 7' long single garage door.
4 Low E Double Hung windows (3' x 3').
A Storm door and Entry door (steel).
My question: how do I figure the best size to use for both heat and AC?
I live in Maryland, so humidity is a concern.

cooling needs 15k btu min, hard part is getting air to circulate in that big of area, use a fan or two and it will help greatly. The bigger one's need a dedicated 220 circuit.

I agree with you concerning a minimun of 15K BTU's for cooling.
Also agree about the fan...there is one planned.
Yes, 220 is planned.

I did make a mistake in my description... I plan to go through the wall, and not the window, with the Heat/AC unit.

Most of the bigger one's give you the option of wall mounting as well(easier IMO anyways)
One thing about mounting, I screwed up and mounted one and workbench height. It was great when garge was empty, but when I pulled a car in it blocked most of the heat/A/C. You might want to it mount high on wall, just something to consider.

I know I've seen calculators around, but can't remember where. I think the basic rule of thumb is 1 ton/600 sqft. My 2 ton mini split has handled the MD humidity in my 1100 sqft so far, though it's early, and it's my first summer. The other thing I've seen for humidity is that it's best to not be oversized, since the unit won't run enough to remove the humidity.

Thanks for that reminder, about keeping the unit high enough that the cars do not block the flow.

I'm now thinking between 18K BTU to 20K BTU.
I need to find a calculator, as you mentioned.
