People have asked about this a couple of times, so I'll show what I did in the shop yesterday to free up a window. This a regular 8500 BTU LG window unit from HD. After a bit of study, I made two brackets from 1x1x1/8 aluminum angle. I drilled mounting holes to match the holes in the case that mounted the window wings. The holes in the case for the window wings also set the angle of the case for drainage, so no thought required for that. Easy enough to cut a hole in the OSB and frame it up. The rough part was using the trim saw to slice through the HardiPanel outside. Ugh. Some trim and caulk, done.
Those are 3" long screws mounting it to the framing. There are 4 #8 self taps on each side of the brackets. It's not going to be forced out without a fight.

10.4K in the 28x24 space, 8500 in the 12x24. I think I do AOK cooling 960 sq/t with 19K of cooling.
