Greetings from a long-time lurker. Am in the design stage of a 24x30 detached garage. 11'6" ceiling, 7' hip roof on top. 24' side faces street and will have standard door installed 3' inside left corner. My question is windows. What do you all have, and how many? I'm thinking one 3x3 on each of the 24' ends, but they look a little small in the drawing with the high ceiling. The back side will have no windows, and the front will have two 9x8 doors. Any input appreciated. Thanks.

I am about through with a 31x54 garage addition. I put 3 windows on the rear wall. They are spread over the first 25' of that wall. They are a std width but are tall due to a 12' ceiling height. I have a door and one window on the North wall and then no windows on the South wall. The East wall has 4 carriage style doors-9'x10'each (each of the 8 doors 2 per openning) will have a 6 pane widow in them.) I got vinyl coated windows. Good luck.

I like haveing a window at the far end of the garage for two reasons. One you can get better ventilation when you open up both ends of the garage and also on the off chance that you are at that end and a fire gets started between you and the door you have a way of getting out. In mine I also have a fire exting. at both ends of the garage just in case. If you are planning on just using most windows for letting light in only then I would put the windows up a little higher on the sides and front so that people will be less able to look in. The far end make it a easy height for you to get to and put curtains or blinds over them.

If you're worried about scale you could always put several short windows up high on the wall. I like this look plus it gives you plenty of natural light but curious eyes can't see what your working on inside.

You want windows? I've got windows!

Well, actually siding glass door panels. A local apartment complex was renovating & I bought all their old sliding glass doors for $10 a pair.

Here's a photo of the back of my garage as we're beginnig the siding installation. The portion with all the tall windows is my MG showroom, the smaller portion to the left with the 2 tall windows and large door opening is an addition where we'll store my MG Midgets and have my sand blaster, parts washer, work bench, etc., & the small shed to the far left was built to store my lawnmower and yard tools.

I built a 24x32 for my inlaws a couple of years ago. One 16x7 rollup door on one short (gable end) wall, and a man door on the opposite end.

Two 3'H x 6'L windows evenly spaced on the 32' side toward the road. It looks pretty good proportionally, and the windows allow plenty of light.

My garage is 44' deep x 58' wide x 12' ceiling - this photo is the west wall (back of the house), with two 6' x 6' Andersen dual casement windows. The front wall that faces the street has three of them, and the center one has a cathedral window above it. They're high enough off the ground that you can't see in, but they let in lots of natural light; each has vertical blinds. Funny lines in the roof in the photo result from re-sizing down from a HUGE high-resolution image.
