What tool should one use to cut a 5" strip across the top of a windshield that follows the windshield's contour?

No special tool other than a olfa knife, water and baby shampoo and the skill of window tinting. Trust me you want this done by a pro. Oh and a spray bottle.

Generally you use the factory straight edge of the roll on the bottom edge of the eyebrow so the only cutting you do is at the top and sides.

local tint shop has a computer cutter that you input the make/model of the car and it cuts it out

When i tinted i used to just slit it in the box by sticking my Olfa blade through the tint and into the cardboard and rolling it out. You ca also apply the tint and let it set up for a few minutes then use a fresh blade (stainless steel or you can etch the glass) and a piece of 1/4 masking tape to applied to the discard side of the tint as a guide if you want a curve.

And another method I almost always used was to apply the tint with the protective film still on to the outside if the windshield. Do all your cutting outside of the glass. I used the end cap from the roll as a guide against the window trim and placed my knife against the end cap. Slide it along while cutting. Or masking tape will work.

I always used a stainless handle Olfa with snap off stainless blades. Stainless blades will not etch tempered glass as easily.

Thanks. I've always wanted to try tinting, not really sure why because I'm not a huge tint person but just wanted to try it. What other tools would you recommend as far as squeegees and other stuff? What brands are best?

I had a few rubber squeegees cut at different angles and lengths and a hard edged squeegee with a handle but I often just used a plastic stripe applicator with a folded paper towel around it to finish off. I doubt it matters much which brand is "best" since it is a " feel " thing.
