Hi guys...
Lurked here for a couple of years and its been quite the education. By way of introduction, Im an Army Utilities Repairer. So... I have watched with great interest the threads on vises and block grinders and other "antique" equipment. Was cruising craigslist looking for a drill press after reading one of these threads and came across a Royal Cannedy Otto model. Long story short, I picked it up yesterday for $50. Its HEAVY and has been taken care of. The motor turns and runs, the chuck is present, but the whole thing got a rattle can vader job. So I'm gonna tear it apart this winter and hope to learn some things. The questions I have: the chuck just fell off. It doesn't appear to be held on by anything more than some friction. Is this a press fit? Should it be tighter? Also, any help with the model number or some history on the company would be great. Went to vintage machines and looked at some stuff thats similar but not the match to mine. Anyways...Thanks for the help!

Nice project

Someone here will know the answers.

I've been looking for an old drill press, just haven't found one.

Welcome aboard. This place becomes addictive

The chuck is probably a Morse taper. This is an interference fit. The tapers are sized like,#4, #3, #2, etc. Some larger bits are tapered, also. I had a #4 tapered chuck when I worked maintenance for GM. I sold it when I retired.
