Forget the car cover is the first thing I'll tell you. Too much junk blows up under them when stored outside. Grit and dust will wreak havoc on any nice paint.
If you have to use a cover buy a GOOD one. A 50 dollar cover is not going to work. You need to spend around 3 or 400 for a good all weather cover.
To keep out moisture, triple bag the car. Put down a large tarp with two sheets of 3/4" wolmonized plywood. Park the car on the plywood. Use a nice flannel lined "cheaper" cover to cover the car. Pull the tarp up around the car and secure it well, then put your expensive cover over everything. This will keep most everything out as long as the top cover is moisture proof.
By the time you do all of this you could put up a portable garage to keep the car in. Nothing touches the car and it can be worked on whenever you want. A 40 or 50W light bulb left on inside will keep the interior dry.
Leave mouse bait outside the car so they don't feel the need to venture in.

i agree with mark regarding the no car cover thing.... dirt gets between the cover and the vehicle and does a real number on the paint. Also, cats like to get between the cover and the car and end up scratching the **** out of it too.

If you really are looking for a outdoor cover and are likely to be using it for more than one winter, then one of these would be a good call.

Where do you live, and what kind of weather do you have in the winter? In locations where it gets really cold and stays that way (in other words, well under freezing until spring) I wouldn't bother with a cover, just let it sit - snow won't hurt it.

Location would help, that makes a big difference in what is best. Is the parking are you are thinking about paved or concrete, or gravel/dirt? Lot of variables that you need more info to get better answers.
Overall, my suggestion is either get a rented storage, park under a real carport without a car cover, or leave it uncovered in open.
