I needed the scraper as well -3 Celsius here. All the hills were white with a hoare frost. Looked lovely, but I didn't appreciate it setting off to work.
Snow has been forecast but not arrived yet.
I'm crossing my fingers that I get my redundancy this week, before I have to get up in the dark and the snow and ice again.

OK e-tec we had wind chills in the low 30's today I am happy now . Hopefully it will stick around long enough to piss off a few furnaces

It snowed last night... owning a 4x4 was useful getting off our hill this morning.
Redundancy is getting sacked but with a sh*tload of cash as a compensation. Paid to go away quietly really.
Our plan (which the newspaper management does not know about) was for me to retire in less than a year, so to be handed a nice cheque to go a winter season early would be nice.

Middle of December I'm outta there with two years wages in my pocket, pure slipped my mind to tell them that I was aiming on retiring next April anyway.

Congrats Frank.....if you had told us sooner I would have delayed my return home from London....made a little deture up your way so you could buy me a pint or two...or three.....
Speaking of pints...I can't believe how the cost has gone up....I remember when I could buy a pint of Tartan Lager for 50p....everyone wants to blame the the smoking ban for the pubs closeing down....naw...it's the price of beer....and pub lunches? I remember buying a pub lunch for less than 2 pounds....we had a pub lunch the other day and it cost me 30 quid.....that is almost $60...and I didn't even have a beer....2 pounds for ONE cup of tea?
Which means that 2 years wage must be one chunk of change....
Ok...to keep this on topic....we spent our last 2 days on London...pissed on us all day Sunday...froze our ***'s off on Monday...at least it was sunny....
Cold Tuesday when we got on the plane....but warm and sunny when we got off the plane here in California....I won't even need to wear my jacket when I ride my M/C home tonight......but my *** is dragging......kids woke up at 2am and would not go back to bed....

I will be down the pub tonight, Taylor's Landlord will go down just fine. Yes, it's £2 pint these days.
I will need four wheel drive to get down off my hill but, of course, I will have to walk back after having a skinfull.
So I will need to take my wellies (galoshies).
The snow stayed at 4 inches but it's frozen all day so just hard and crisp now.

I'm afraid I'm one of the ones that gets to enjoy an extended fall. Sorry, guys up north. This part of the world, we have to do it backwards. Summer, it's too blame hot to be outside for extended periods. Fall and spring are great, though short, and winter (such as it is) is also pretty short.
That said, it's been in the low 30s most mornings this week. Pretty chilly for October here.
Now that DST starts (this weekend), it'll be dark when I get home from work, which is what really kind of stinks.

NOW THAT I DIDN'T LIKE!! Believe it or not, I moved to the only place (In Canada anyways) that doesn't change time (no DST), so that never happens! It's 5pm, SUNNY and about 7C/46F right now!
Back in BC, it started getting DARK at 5PM, then the time would change and it was DARK at 4pm. On rainy days it seemed to be DARK at 3pm. YUKKKK!

Ok since we are on the subject of Winter how man y of you have gas heat or gas appliances and yes this includes propane. Ok now how many of you have good Carbon Monoxide detectors that you know work . I am amased at the number of peaple I meet every day that dont have one its scarry . So if you dont have one go get one .

e-tec if you want to test it hod it near the exhaust pipe on one of your cars just pushing the test button only tests the warning alarm it doesnt atually test the functionality of the unit .

I have a detector but I have no idea if it really works. The only time it makes a noise is when power fails. I will have to try the exhaust trick.

Most houses with Gas heat have the furnace in the basement and the vents in or near the floor . I actually recomend the ones that plug in with a digital readout on them . I have told alot of peaple the exhaust trick for testing their detectors since as I said earlier the only thing the test button tests is the alarm itself and not wether or not the unit is actually working.

When I first got mine I used a white 6' long extension cord and plugged it in high on the wall above an outlet. My father in Law wanted one and had me do it right and install an outlet high on the wall. I still have to do that at my house.
They say you can test them with a match or lighter but I have never been successful that way. It can leave soot streaks on the unit also.
