I’ve always used 12/2 romex but with prices being up is it still safe to use 14/2? I’d be running to 6 led wafer lights which will not consume a lot of power.

I think you could run about 100 of those units on 14-2
Aren‘t they about 12 watts each? 12 watts works out to be a tenth of an amp each.
The only caution I can think of is one that hit me. I rewired a bathroom in my house and ran a few feet of 14/2 to a single LED fixture over the mirror. The inspector wanted the entire bathroom wired in 12…no exceptions. All the walls were still open easier to just change it than to argue.

Ah I see. May be an electrical code thing. I’d rather be safe then sorry. I’ll just buy the 12/2 but exact measurement on what I need. When in the past I would have just bought the 250’ and stored what was left over.

Is the breaker 20 amp or 15 amp? That's what decides if you can use 14 or not.

No reason to waste money on 12/2 if it is only on a 15A breaker unless you are dealing with voltage drop issue.
