I have been reading a lot of the posts on floor heating. There was some talk of 4 x 8 wire mesh panels to mount the pex to. I would prefer to have my tubing centered in my pour rather than down on the foam board. Why couldn't I just mount the pex to rebar being used for the floor?

Plannig on installed radiant in my floor up here in New England. My friend did it and here's what he did. Use mesh panels(5x10) and install pex in desired location then zip tie them in place when you're sure of placement.
He then cut 2 inch slices of pvc drainage pipe and used the slices as spacers between mesh and insulation underneath. No problem with moving during pour.
Almost forgot to mention, drill holes in spacers and zip tie them to your grid.

You can do that. Just remember that chairs-2" + rebar-1" + pex-3/4" + minimum concrete coverage over pex 2" = 6" slab thickness.

I mounted mine to my mesh with zip ties, I have rebar on stands spaced at around 4' the mesh on top and pex over that, my slab is 6" thick.

The slab will be mainly heated from solar panels on the roof I have a wood stove for supplement heat while I am in the building.

Curious. Why don't you like the pex on the foam? Either way works, each has its + and - marks.
