So maybe this info isn't ground breaking, but like to do a little give and take :)

I recently had to take apart a wire rack shelf unit (things are awesome)
that has been together for a long time and had some very heavy items on it. I beat the hell out of it with a 2x4 and dead blow hammer combo to no avail..aka it was *****...would not budge and actually bent some of the metal.

Tried spraying with some WD-40..no go, but was on the right track to give some lubrication.

The trick is Armor All spray..sprayed the problem shelves plastic shelf wedges/connectors (see pic below), let sit for a few minutes...gave it a tap with 2x4 and off it came very easily.

Hope this helps someone having this problem

Solvent can work, as can a heat gun.

Those plastic shells are expensive to replace, so take care with them in removal and assembly.

I would think that the solvent would harm the plastic?

Armor All is pretty safe stuff (don't mean to gargle with it:) for plastics, it should cause no harm to plastic wedges.

Heat would be a good option too, just have to be careful not to warp them

That's a good hint. I have always been able to get them apart with rubber hammer, but sometimes it does take a good whack!

nickleone, i did turn it over to beat on it...even with gravity on my side that sucker was on there. Tried a few taps with a 2x4 alone, then a did try a rubber mallet, and lastly the 2x4 w/ a mini sledge hammer...damn things felt like they were welded on;actually distorted some of the metal bar on the shelf sides. That's when Armor All prevented me from taking an angle grinder to it lol.
