OK I need to run 223 feet of wire from my meter to the planed area of my shop. I went down to my local electrical shop. (not a box store) They recommended 2 gauge aluminium wire based on my infrequent use of a 220 welder and a small 220 Air compressor. Does this sound to small or am I on the right track here. BTW I've all ready purchased 250 foot of wire.

I just went 150 feet in a 2 1/2" schedule 40 PVC conduit. I am powering a 200 amp panel. I used 4/0 aluminum wire. I suggest you get a reference volume and do your research. You can get a pocket reference guide for about $20.00 at the electrical supply house. When you put wire in a PVC or other material it is considered a "raceway". The wire I used was also direct burial rated. Your code is probably similar, but check before you do it so it only takes once.

Just be aware at that length of wire, u shouldnt run more than a 40a continous load otherwise u will have voltage drop issues!
