I recently upgraded the main panel to 200 amp and feeder wires to 3/0 in my shop. The meter is right next to, about a foot away, from the transformer pedestal. While I had the meter can open hooking up the wires I noticed they were feeding the meter with #2.
I called the electric company about upgrading my service and they are they said my transformer and meter are good to 200 amps but the #2 needs to be changed to 1/0. How do they figure this - just because the wires are only a couple feet long? I have three pieces of 3/0 about 3’ long left over from the upgrade when the service guys get here I am going to try and get them to use those but I was just curious how they get by with 1/0 as standard for 200 amps.
