I use both self adjusting as well as the manual type cutters. For super thin automotive type wire I use the automatic ones set with little pressure and keep adding it until it's perfect. For one's that I can use in my manual plier type, I prefer those units in doing a billion wires, the automatic ones work fine. The reason I like the plier type is they cut very cleanly and you can cut farther back and still pull the insulation off. For nipping ends off the automatic ones are fine. Plus, if your in a tight place both type have their place depending on what you're doing

I've had my eye on the Knipex precision strippers for a while and recently picked up the 12 12 02 on an Amazon warehouse deal for under $100. There are actually a few models available for cheap right now on AWD. It might be worth it to check out the models and see if the one you'd want is available. The 12 12 13 and the 12 12 14 are the two designed for AWG sizes, the rest are all in mm. https://www.knipex.com/index.php?id=1216&L=1&page=group_detail&isMobile=&parentID=1363&groupID=1379

After using these for a couple days, I'll never want to use anything else on the small wires, 22AWG and up.

The Klein 11057 is nice if you have larger hands. I have one and it's super comfortable.

I do a lot of electronics work with small gauge wire and the Klein 11057's are excellent.

These <https://amzn.com/B01JO6UB7W> are available from dozens of sellers and are absolutely fantastic for fine gauge stranded wire. You can use them one-handed and they will cleanly strip multiple wires at once. Only good to to about 18 AWG, but for electronics work that's perfect.
