I want to add a new outlet. It is a 4 wire 30A just off my load center. I bought 10/4 SOOW cord to use as an extension. This is the only 10AWG wire I have in the shop, so I just cutoff a couple feet and stripped the case to get the 4 wires. Before I wire this up, is it OK to use this type of wire from the breaker to the outlet? Its not solid core like everything else so it is not rigid. I can zip tie it no problem to stabilize it, just want to be sure I dont do something wrong.

thanx

No you can't use it. Sorry
Flexible cord is prohibited by Code as a substitute for fixed wiring.

Is that an EMT connector attached to the box?

Its not the right wire, it could be solid or stranded but that is a cord and not to be used for permanent wiring, there is a reason for it but this isn't the biggest deal breaker I have seen lately.

yeah, I figured so, thats why I didnt finish it :(

the box has a emt adapter then, 2-1/2 long emt, then emt adapter in the load center.

Thanx for the quick reply :)

Bite the bullet, swallow your pride, and get yourself to HDor someplace else that sells wire by the foot and do the right thing.

You will feel good about it eventually.

yep, want to do it right, just didnt know what right was.... It didnt look right, so thats why I stopped to ask. I figure most of the specs are common sense so if something doesnt look right it probably isnt.
