Need a GJ assist yall.

While I do have a diagram to follow and the basic skills to do it safely...some aspects of my switch are not the same. So I'm hoping that a few may give me a second opinion on my assumptions.

First. Need to confirm that my MAG "CAN" have it's coil terminals on the side vs the example which has them on the top and behind L1 and L2.

Second. Need to confirm that my overload terminals could be those pictured on the bottom and not on the side as the diagram shows.

Finally... Any suggestions WILL be taken as free/non-binding information

Thanks

Coil wires for the contactor are on either side of the contacts. White wire with spade termial and small red wire going to contacts of the overload below reset switch. You can test the overload with no power on. Left overload left center there is a lever on top of a gear with pocket screwdriver just push on the lever or just remove the overload just two screws.

Thanks fitter..

1. Coil wires for the contactor are on either side of the contacts. SO, my Mag switch has them on the side. I'm going to say that's confirmed.

2. The second part of your reply has me lost. I was asking what the red (most bottom) wires were routed to in the picture... I was guessing those two are my overload contacts.

Thanks for the effort.

Easy way to confirm the OL heater contact location is that its normally closed.

Remove all voltage and check continuity.

All of the other elements are in a series arrangement: (coil, OL contact, and the pressure switch [also normally closed, open on rise]). That series arrangement has to start on L1 and has to end on L2.

Overload doesn't get you a lot on single phase, imo. You can set fuses and breakers to take care of that. Its utility is greater for phase loss on a 3 phase system.

I had the same problem with my 5 hp 80 gallon Frankenpressor about a year or so ago.

Guys here had me fixed up in no time. No dogs, kittens or puppies electrocuted. I'm still here. (I'm "assuming" that's a positive).

why do people list their compressor sizes in gallons when taking about electrical and mag starters?

The gallon capacity has no bearing on the electrical requirements.
