I need to replace both a 6" and 8" wheel on my two grinders and holy mackerel the prices are crazy - all the way from $5.99 at HF to over $300 at Sears.

Anyone give a tip on a good value for not crazy money?

There are a few name brand ones on amazon from 15-25 bucks for 8'', I just picked up a DeWalt one for the shop for 20 bucks I believe. All depends on wire type, thickness, etc.

For narrow width, which I think belong on the sub 1/2hp 6" grinders. The craftsman (yes china made) have done a lot for me. If your 8" grinder has the power to spin a wide wheel, by all means get a nice USA or German made wide wheel.

I have the 6" from HF and it'as pretty much useless because it's so unbalanced. It nearly shook my bench apart!

Last HF wheel I used threw wires like crazy starting the first time it got up to speed. They are junk and I would never use one again.

Grinder wheels are a dangerous object. I would advise never to purchase a grinder wheel or wire wheel at HF. A few bucks is not worth a major injury.
