What do you mean by "wireless?" I.e. A remote control type thing that you hold in your hand or that the controller needs to wirelessly connect to an existing security system? Start by looking up ZWave. It's probably the most popular wireless control system in the consumer space, and you can interface to most home automation systems and security panels.

I put a WeMo light switch on my outside lights and have them controlled automatically through the app. They come on at sunset and turn off at sunrise. But you could easily make custom rules for them, have them come on automatically, control them remotely, or set them up through IFTTT for other control schemes.

Are you going to install then with a hardwired switch ? Then you want a 3 way wireless switch.

I use z-wave switches w/ Samsung Smartthings hub/controller. The Smartthings have the ability to use "scene control" to control the lights or any load wirelessly, so-to-speak.

LiveWatch security system app allows for the control of z-wave devices. I have all my exterior lights scheduled to come on 15 minutes before sunset and stay on 15 minutes after sunrise...

I am not sure how many lights you are considering. If only one or two it may easier to just use a "smart bulb" such as LIFX, which is a WiFi controlled bulb. You will need WiFi coverage where you place the bulbs.

It will get too expensive if you are talking many bulbs. If that is the case than use a controller and Z Wave or the like as has been mentioned.

many years ago I installed modules that were wireless(before there was WIFI)
and the modules were commanded by a master transmitter to turn off and on.
Im sure theres been lots on improvements since then.
would like to selectively turn on areas remotely without hardwiring to a switch.
some will even have solar panels and battery as hardwiring is out of the question
