Hey guys. I would like to wire in a flood light in my shed, which is about 20 yards or so from my kitchen. I'd like to have a wireless switch somehow to control the flood light from inside my house so I can turn it on a few minutes before getting the dogs out. Any idea? I don't want to run wire from house to shed. Thanks in advance!

I use a lutron caseta switch. They make dimmable and non dimmable kind, and either one can be used with what they call the 'pico' remote. The remote can be handheld or can be mounted on the wall with a cover plate like a real switch but it's completely wireless. It can also be controlled by an app if you want.

Awesome! Can you link the specific products you're talking about? The flood light isn't existing yet, so whatever wireless device goes in there will be with a new box and wiring as well. Then of course the flood light and the is a dead switch inside I could replace with the one you mention. Thanks!

There are a number of ways this can be done, it just depends on how much money you want to spend, do you plan on adding other devices, etc

The actual switch would be 'hard wired' but there are a number of ways to control it. Z- Wave, WiFi, etc. Do you want to control the switch with an actual remote control type device, use your smart phone, tell 'Alexa' to turn it off or on, etc

Double J used a $20 switch that works with his smartphone. (Of course you do need wifi)

So what, I would wire the flood light to a switch in the garage, add the wireless switch in the garage and control it from my smart phone in the house instead?

This is the switch that would be wired to power and to the light: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017LRCG38/?tag=atomicindus08-20

This is the remote: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KLAXOE8/?tag=atomicindus08-20

and this is the bracket to mount the remote on the wall if you'd like: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JZRAFEA/?tag=atomicindus08-20

You can use any decora style wall plate from homedepot (the ones with the large rectangle opening instead of the regular light switch plate)

If you want to control it from your phone you need this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XPW67ZM/?tag=atomicindus08-20

With this connected you can also do scheduling (turn lights on when the sun goes down, or turn lights on at 9pm also schedule them to turn off at sunrise or at a certain time.)

Also, this kit would replace all of that above except you'd still need the wall mount adapter for the remote if you wanted it. The only difference is that this kit is dimmable which means that the flood light MUST be dimmable or it will not work. The above links are non dimmable and will work with any light whether it's dimmable or not. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MXCRAX8/?tag=atomicindus08-20

What you want is properly called a wireless 3 way switch. You replace the switch in the shed with the "receiver" and the transmitter is in the house.

My buddy uses one almost every day in winter. The horse still want food and water by 6AM and it is dark out.

I have the same exact setup as lowe.joshua51 and I love it works flawlessly from almost 100 feet for me.

Wire the light to the switch (Ankuoo NEO switch in my case) and control it via WiFi with the app. This switch can also be operated manually since its a push button style switch.
