Wiring a disconnect for 6/3 -- neutral?

Hi there!

I'm running NM 6/3 from the service panel in my detached shop to another room in the shop where a dust collector (5HP motor) will eventually be used. The run is only about 40 feet including the trip from the service panel up to the attic and back down the wall to the disconnect, but the service panel is in another room from the motor so it needs a disconnect.

Technically the motor doesn't need the separate neutral but I was considering picking up 120V from one leg and neutral to energize a contactor to run the motor. Also, I figured that if I'm pulling #6 wire from one room to another, I might as well pull 6/3 in case a need for it comes up In The Future.

The home-center disconnects I've seen are 2-pole and the one I've got has a ground bar installed -- but what do I do with the neutral? There's no neutral bar installed in this disconnect (it's meant for air conditioners).

I don't have the dust collector yet so the wiring will end at the disconnect, for now. If the answer is "the neutral from the feed is tied to the equipment neutral directly", that works, but for the moment there isn't any equipment to tie it to.

Thoughts?

If youre not using the neutral then simply put a wire nut on it. If u do end up using it, simply tie it into the equipment neutral. If u did need a neutral bar, then purchase one that is on insulated risers...

If I was going to the trouble would put a 6 space panel on it, use a breaker as disconnect, remember if you are adding additional controls to equipment it may need ocpd and proper wire sizing.
