Wiring for a ceiling fan

I have purchased a Canarm CP56 HPWP ceiling fan for a home application. The existing wiring is 14-3 which gives me 4 wires one being the exposed ground. Unfortunately the fan requires 5 wires. I've not seen commonly available 5 wire conduit. Is there such an item or do you install a 14-2 along with the 14-3? To avoid installing new wiring from switch to motor, can anyone recommend a remote switch I can install near the fan motor?

No, it doesn't "require" 5 wires. Read your installation manual. The red and blue attach to either the white or black wire, along with the black and white from the fan, depending on your choice of updraft or downdraft.

If you want to use their reversing controller you would need an additional wire added to the circuit.

Don't forget the ceiling fan box, if there isn't already one installed.
As far as the five wires you can simplify that a little. One is the common ground. Then you have the light circuit, and the fan circuit. So you can combine the nuetral for each, and the hot for each.
I know all these replies are saying the same things, just throwing it at you a little different so at least one of the replies sticks.

Several places sell ceiling fan remote control kits, they go from 25 bucks and up, never used one so can't recommend one but they look pretty basic and easy to install. It has a remote receiver you mount to the ceiling close to the box and wire into it, just need juice at the ceiling box. They control three speeds and on/off, you switch direction with the switch on the fan if it has reverse.

Well it looks like that is an 'industrial' type fan that is usually installed with their proprietary controller

Since you don't have the 5 wires - it looks like the easiest thing to do would be to wire it up as an 'updraft' or 'downdraft'. Probably should buy something like one of these wall controllers which should work fine but you won't be able to reverse the fan direction.

This is the closest thing I can find to the wiring diagram:

What are the 5 wires for?

The instructions say you need 5 wires for reversibility. I've now received email from the company selling the fan. Unfortunately they don't offer any 4 wire fans (3 plus ground) and have advised installing a 14-2 wire together with the 14-3 wire that has previously been installed, which will be a costly endeavor. (ripping out drywall etc.)
