Wiring for future circuits

I am getting ready to finish/drywall the interior of the garage. The garage has its own service panel. Are there any code issues if I add a junction box in the attic and run a spare cable from the junction box to the breaker panel? I would leave the wire unconnected at both ends, just tucked out of the way. In the future, if I need an extra circuit, I could hook the cable to a breaker and extend the other end from the junction box to where ever it needs to go.

Any problems with doing this?

Thanks,
Pete

You'll have to check with your local people......electrician,township,etc. I've done exactly what you are describing at my last shop in missouri so it wasn't a problem for me and I never did use it.......... Keith

Murphy's law says that if you put in a wire now, it won't be what you need in the future...you may want to stub a piece of empty conduit from the panelboard up into the attic space instead. That way, if you want to add some more circuits in the future you can install the cable then instead of now. If you do this, make sure to cap the ends of the conduit stubs to keep them clean.

Thanks everybody! I like the conduit idea. It saves me from having to guess how many / what size wires to run. :willy_nil Now I just have to figure out how many / what size conduits to install. I'm thinking a couple of 1 inch conduits should do it. :headscrat
