Wiring for lift question

I am finally getting close to getting my lift. It will be a 2 post. I want to drop the electrical line from the ceiling above the post so that it is ready when the lift and installers arrive. Do I need a box in the ceiling, or can i just punch the wire thru the drywall and run it down to the column? Do I need conduit for exposed wiring? Not quite settled on the make of the lift, yet, So I am looking for generic advice.

I ran 220 line to the sheetrock and then mounted a 220 receptacle and box. Then I installed a plug on the wire coming from the lift motor so I can just unplug it if the switch ever failed while raising lift

Yes - mount a box on the ceiling, and put a plug on the lift wire at the ceiling box. I installed a switch just above the motor on the lift post just in case the "up" switch has issues and won't release.

Thanks. Do they make a 220v twist-lok plug and socket for mounting in a box?

I ran a 120v and a 240v feed and my air line, under the ground before I poured the floor. It comes up, right along the one post and then feeds the motor and a double duplex outlet for drill, trouble light or what ever. A clean looking install.

I ran 10-3 to my two post. I didn't use a ceiling box, didn't really need it in this layout. I used 10-3 so I could have a 120v outlet handy on the lift post. I also included a motor rated switch for turning off the lift at the pump. I'll post a pic later if it helps, for some reason I don't have one of the power hookup. Go figure.
