I am currently wiring my garage for a 220 compressor and a mini split A/C unit. Can I wire the A/C with 10-2 wire (orange) also? Or is ther an advantage of running 8-guage wire. They will be on separate breakers, but just need to get it done before the sheetrock.

I know the A/C unit will also need a shut off at the unit outside.

#10 is rated for 30A which you can have a running amp load up to 24A or 80% on a 30A breaker. So #10 is more than enough if the unit only pulls 7A max. Technically for a dedicated circuit only pulling 7A you could get by with #14w/15A breaker. Doesn't the unit come with a spec sheet that specifies the wiring and breaker size.

Thanks. I do not have the unit yet, so no spec sheet. Just want everything wired for the future.

What size wire wouls garantee any A/C (up to 24,000 BTU) would work? Just do not want to have to re-do later. Again, thanks!
