My plan is to run 2-2-2-4 MHF from my house to my detached garage, and use a 60 amp breaker in my main Square D panel to a Square D sub-panel in the garage. I haven't decided if I'll use direct bury or put the MHF in conduit.
My question is what do I need to do to protect the MHF where it comes out of the ground at the garage and connects through the wall to the sub-panel?
The garage wall is block faced with brick, so I will probably put a larger hole through the wall and sleeve it with conduit. Should I then run protective wire conduit up from the ground to a junction box on the outside, and then come through the wall, or try to use a 90 degree bend in the conduit so I can make the MHF turn and come through the wall (no junction box outside)?
Once the wire is through the wall, does it need to be in protective conduit while it turns 90 degrees inside the garage and comes up through the bottom of the sub-panel? For example, if I come through the brick wall at about 12" off the floor and then run another 2 feet up to the panel, does this need to be in conduit.
I could also come directly through the wall into the back of the sub-panel, but that makes the conduit much more visible on the outside of the garage. It also may be difficult to make that 90 degree turn with MHF.
