So I am working with one of my vendors to wire up a headset anr test display. Here is the display.

Basically you plug your headset in to the intercom and when you press the button it starts an ipod and airplane noise comes out of the white speaker.

Here is the cord they sent me.

The 3.5mm jack goes into the ipod and the other end goes into an amp, when you press the button it should act like pressing the button on apple head phones and pause/play the ipod. When it is all plugged up I can get sound from the speaker by manually pressing the button on the ipod but the mounted button does nothing.

I think it is wired with the left and right speakers soldered to the "C" post and the ground and mic button soldered to the "NC," and I think it needs to be wired differently based on the photo of the unit in our other store.

It appears to have all 4 wires mounted differently and the led in the switch actually lights up.

I would think you could troubleshoot that with a multimeter and do a continuity test to see what connection goes where. Likewise a quick google search should tell you the contact points on the 3.5mm jack for left/right/control/gnd...

The far side of crazy.. but sometimes Australia
Based on your pictures and description, you currently only have it cabled for Audio, looks like you have no control signal to start/stop the iPod. The signal you are missing is from the switch from the description you give. Pretty sure the play/pause button built into iPod headphones is just a momentary push button (back/next have resistors inline I think), but have never actually confirmed it. Suggest you search online for a schematic for the iPod headphone cable and work back from there.

No control through the mini plug. Right, left speaker, and common.

Look closer at his 1/8" plug, it has a fourth contact which I believe can be used for this type of control.

The OP needs to check that the wire connecting to that contact is wired to the switch. I'm not sure the order of the contacts, in regard to function, but I'm sure a quick google search will reveal the answer.

From the picture it looks like the four wires are soldered together in just two pins, which is definitely not right.

This is correct and there's no way you'd get any sound with the r and l soldered together like that. The other two are ground and ground + microphone. I would start b getting the channels separated. Headphone wires are very picky as to the quality of the spliced connections. Make sure to burn off the enamel insulation on the wires before soldering, just briefly light the wires and like a fuse, the coating burns right off.
