Let me first state that I just did 7 hours of research trying to solve this so I wouldn't have to be a noob asking for help. Especially if it turns out to be as simple as I hoped it would be. Either my brain has gone numb from too much Google or it isn't that simple.

Comfort Zone CZ220
It was given to me so I figured it's worth some effort. The problem was easy to spot. High Limit Switch. AuOne TC-306

My problems are that the previous owner disconnected all the wires and some apparently broke off. So I don't know where they go. There's a #12? Black from the elements (I'm guessing) that has a #16 Black pigged off 4" to a #16 Yellow that's pigged 4". All 3 connections have female connectors. There's a #16 Blue coming from the Caution light. There's a #14 Black coming from the power selection switch. Then there's a #12 Black coming from the thermostat and ties into a #16 Red coming from the other side of the Caution light. That's 6 connectors for a 2 prong HLS. I found a simplified schematic but, it doesn't show colors or much of anything.

The other problem is finding the HLS. I read that the 306 is an Auto with a rating of 140c to 160c and 25a. The closest I could find was a Supco L290. I'm just not sure if close is good enough. Should I be lower than OE ? Is higher okay ? I'm not one to push the limits when 240v is involved. I appreciate safety. I searched this forum for a couple hours but, no one talked about cross-references or a replacement for the 306. So many places have ones with close specs but, nothing specific enough to stop me from writing this book of a post.

So if someone could tell me where the 6 connections go and which HLS is compatible, would you please end my misery ? I've wasted my whole afternoon, evening, and night. Plus, seeing that it's after 1am now, I'll stay up for fear that I'll miss my 5am alarm for work. Yay !

Thank you. Good ol' Bob Vila. The picture helps a lot with the wiring. Apparently I should've selected images instead of looking for the schematic. I'm going to bypass the HWS just to check that the heater works. If it does, I'll take the HWS shopping with me and try to find a compatible one. If that doesn't work, I suppose I'll order one that is rated lower and try it out.
