tie bar, that what those damn things are called, I had been having a hell of a time finding one

The breaker for my well pump failed one night. I had 2 single pole 20a breakers so I stuck them both in the panel and ran a piece of #10 bare copper wire through the holes in the handles to tie them together. Figured it would bend and not work so well but its been that way for over a decade now!

Probably not code compliant since its not a purpose made tie bar, but it does the same exact thing.

IDK for sure if it violates NEC, but I've seen it done many times, even by the three different VERY particular licensed electricians that used to work for me.

It violates the NEC.
2 breakers with the handle ties do not meet the requirement for common trips with 2 and 3 pole breakers.

You must be hiring the wrong electricians ;)

Its the kobalt 60 gallon rated 15 amps. Why does the length of the power cord matter if you can run it directly from the breaker box which is a far run anyway? Im certain I can wire a 220v myself but does it matter what kind of receptacle I use? I want to run a 3 wire from my breaker box being black/white/green i think black and white go to the hots on the breaker and then to a receptacle on the other end.

I can avoid all of this with a 20 foot extension cord from my dryer outlet to the compressor but I hear the length of that will make the compressor have trouble turning on. What is the sense of this?

The issue that would come up is whats called voltage drop. Motor can suffer from voltage drop. Motors have in rush currents and this is why u have to size motor circuits based on HP...

A handle tie is different than common trip, which internally connects the 2 breakers together. A handle tie is used for MWBC...A common trip breaker is physically one breaker...
