I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to lighting, and I want to put some lights up in the garage. I have 4 8ft lights they are supposed to plug into an outlet, but I want to wire them so when I flip the lightswitch in the garage they go on. As of right now I have the switch and it turns on one little bulb in the ceiling. What is involved in wiring these four lights to that existing switch? Hopefully it's nothing too major and I can handle it in an afternoon. Thanks for the help.

Can you screw in one of those outlet adapters that go in a light socket, then plug your strip lights into that?

Easy, Just run 4 outlet boxes in the ceiling and put recepticals in them. Run the wire from the orginal light, and use it for one box if possible. Mount your light next to each one and plug in. Now if you ever have to replace the light fixture, just unplug and replace.

Donzi4me,

Shouldn't ice1184 first determine if he has enough power in the circuit to safely handle the additional 4 - 8ft flourescent light fixtures? :headscrat

My 4' lights with 2 x 40w T12 pull 0.72 amps each. This is off the ballast behind the reflector. Your mileage may differ...

I've got 14 of them plus some incandescents on one 20 amp circuit with about 7 amps to spare.
