Starting to insulate my shop and i was looking at the wiring to the overhead box for my hoist
the specs for the hoist motor are 208v-230v 2HP, Single Phase, 60Hz
The wiring is a 12/2 yellow colored wire
Is this the correct size for that type of motor??
The 220 boxes in the wall all have the large conductor 4 wire going to them
Didn't want to bother the electrician unless I have to
Thanks

I'm assuming the run to be less than 170' from the box, and the wire to be Cu (3% Vdrop)

per code that motor draws ~12A, so #12 rated at 20A is OK depending on the CB, starter, etc., if you have a 20A CB (or less) you are good to go...

you mean 12/2 with gnd correct?

Just be sure and remark the ends of the white wire to red, to indicate to others later on that it is a HOT wire and not a neutral. I use a red magic marker and coat all the exposed white wire.
