I started wiring my building last week. First attempt but was able to gain huge amounts of info from here, Internet, you tube and the book "wiring" from black and decker. Must tell you I had a licensed electrician install the master panel. I installed 16 duplex, steel outlets around the perimeter of the interior. Two circuits of lighting; each contain 8 lights suspended from the ceiling run through a single switch. Also installed one 70w sodium vapor light with light sensor on the exterior. Only problem was the bulbs I ordered, based on info from GJ, we're 13 inches long. My housings for the bulb were only 9 inches deep! Called 1,000 Bulbs and they gave me an RMA with no problem. I ordered the 9 inch. Best thing I did for this job? Rented a 20 foot interior scissor lift! Hanging the lights at 14 feet made this invaluable and saved many trips up and down a ladder.
Next vacation I will install 240v outlets in front and back, exterior waterproof outlets, sub-panel for office area and a couple more exterior security lights.
Thanks to all of you that post and answer posts, you made a big difference in my confidence and decision to attempt this. It has been great.

License? We don't need no stinking license...

"Internet, you tube and the book "wiring" from black and decker"

WOW...what more could you ask for except maybe alcohol to help digest all that new information.

It sounds like you are doing it the same way I did. "Next vacation, I am going to . . ."
I've been working on my shop since 2009, using every vacation from work to complete more of the finishing pieces.

Looking forward to seeing some pictures.

Been working the "vacation" building for the last three years. New promotion at work. Will let me move there and work as needed. Hope it doesn't become "work" now. I'll be back there next week and will take pics.

I'm getting close to finishing mine up now. It has been slow because I have had to stop and start a lot. One day I'm a carpenter the next day I nail up a few boxes and run a little wire and in-between time I'm engineering the next step. No plans, just a mental picture of where all my stuff will go and how I want the finished product to look. Some days I work and put something up and the next day I look at it and don't like the way it looks and tear it out and redo it. I do get flustered at times but I keep the end product in mind and remind myself that it's just all part of the job at hand.

Since the op hasn't put up any pics I'll post a couple of mine just to tide you guys over until he comes around.:)
