Wiring Through Ceiling for Lights - Tin / led lighting

I have 10 fixtures to install, ceiling will be pro rib ceiling panels (tin / aluminum)

My question is, the 4 foot led fixture (maxlight i beleive from the best lighting combo thread) has a hole in the middle, but how should i get through the ceiling?

I dont think it would be safe to just drill a hole. Boxes seem like a huge waste of money x 10 for such a simple thing.

Suggestions? What did you do?

I just finished installing boxes for my lights - regular single gang with a wall plate that has a centered knockout. Ceiling will be pro rib or similar as well once I get there.

Surface mounted? Personally, I'd drill a hole, install a metal strain relief clamp in the light fixture, and run the wire through that. The fixture is your junction box.

That was my thoughts. Do I need to do anything with the hole I drill to protect the wire. It’ll probably never move but just curious.

You could install a rubber grommet that was the size of the hole you punch out, but the metal strain relief along with the sheathing of the cable should be plenty to protect it, especially since it should never really move.

Cool that’ll work

I'd definitely use a grommet - just in case.

If I could source the correct size quickly and easily, I probably would too. The only thing it would hurt would be your wallet, and it probably wouldn't be that much.

I just mounted my lights on a metal ribbed ceiling. I drilled the ceiling 7/8 the same size as the knock out on my lights. I put a heyco 7/8 snap bushing in the hole and it fit like a glove. It was long enough to go through light and ceiling.
