Should I use 6/2 or 6/3 wire?

Welder says 50 amp Lincoln 225. About 40 feet from breaker box.

It requires 2 conductor plus ground. That machine needs 12 or better if single circuit in pipe, 10 cable or better. 50A breaker.

Unless u plan on using the wire for something else down the road that needs a neutral, all u need is NM-b 6/2...
