Never say never, but that vise doesn't look anything like the other examples of Phoenix vises that have been found and shown on the mega thread. It looks way too modern, for starters. None of them are marked like that, either. They have the size on the front of the spindle and the patent marking on the stationary tower around the entryway for the slide. And there's something peculiar about that "X" that makes me want to say, "I am striking out looking..." for information on this vise. :)

I was thinking a Chinese knock off looking at the number markings. No idea where the OP is from, whether in their possession, or seen out and about. Coke bottle seems to be marked in English.

The running of the O E together I’ve seen elsewhere, but can’t recall it at the moment. So many mysteries to ponder.

The name was used in publications, spelled that way, back in 1893 to 1898

From 1897 had to manually scrol to p 237

So maybe these guys from Taunton Mass, from this 1886 source

Yes. Excerpts posted all over the mega vises thread, with several examples of the vises. The vises are not marked that way, though.

I bought this vise solely to maintain a relationship with the seller, after I learned about Phoenix vises. My goal is this Wilton vise. According to him, the vises were acquired in Uruguay.
Regarding the Phoenix, I need to evaluate it.

The design is really modern. I found an apparently original one being sold here in 2024.
