Was at home depot and saw a pair of 8 in bolt cutters that looked like knipex. Then I looked further and saw other wiss tools. The one that I could reach said made in china. I never noticed that brand before. Any thoughts ?

wiss has been kinda the gold standard in tin snips since before i can remember....good stuff

Wiss makes USA made tin snips, also available at HD. I bought a 3 pc set about a year ago.

Wiss used to make a fine 5" electricians snips as well. A bit harder to find than Klein or Clauss, but worth it. Kept an edge better, rusted less, tighter blade gap tolerance.

I have been using WISS tinner's snips for 60+ years. I still have the originals and some newer ones. I do not know where WISS are made now, but the earlier MADE IN USA were the best of the best.

Wiss is to aviation snips, what Estwing is to carpenter hammers. Well made, reasonably priced tools that are available to everyone.

Wiss is now the bottom of the barrel in terms of tin snips for HVAC guys. Midwest or Malco are top of the line.

Among people who use aviation snips on a daily basis, about the only ones still using Wiss are the ones who haven't tried Midwest snips. Most people in the trade switched from the classic lefts and rights to the offset models 20-25 years ago, and the ergonomics of Midwest offsets make the Wiss models feel like you're trying to cut sheet metal with a can opener in comparison.

I kinda agree the last couple of wiss snips I got as a gift I wasnt real impressed. I also looked at a pair of the pliers the 3'' wide ones for sheet metal work at HD, result= didnt buy them. check out the malco snips max2000' you won't go back. just my opinion. bcd

Ok, went back to look at the wiss tools and WOW ! What a differance between the usa made stuff and the now made in china stuff. Lack of quality is just so obvious. All I could do was shake my head and move on.

I have a complete set if Wiss snips, straight, left, and right cut. Come to think of it I have one more but don't remember what that is for. Bought them all about 25 years ago when i was doing some car panel repair but got out of that soon after and haven't had a lot of use for them since.
