So if found this while surfing around my Local Craigslist (Near Charlotte NC). A vintage Wissota model E14 bench grinder. To be honest I don't know much about them other than I really liked the look of it. Something about it's shape and lines is just really appealing to me. Were these know as good grinders? It looks to have a sticker instead of a metal nameplate, so I don' really know what vintage this would be. Anyone have anymore insights on it. I am sure the $100 asking price is a bit high, but who knows.

I have had one of these Wissota grinders for about 25 years. It works great and never fails me. One of these days I will clean it up and restore it but it is always in service in my shop.

100 bucks is too high. You can find nicer ones with water cooling trays around here for 30-50 bucks.

Homeowner grade 6" grinder, note the stamped tin wheel guards, of which part of one is missing. Good grinders have cast wheel guards. Probably works fine, but priced way high to me, $25. to maybe $40. at the most, but then good grinders aren't that hard to come by around here. Maybe it's different there?

I know that the Wissota industrial ones are right there with the likes of Baldor and will run near forever. The tin wheel guards are not very appealing although it does at least look to have nice thick solid tool rests. For the size though I'd agree that $100 is too much.

I'm just finishing restoring a Wissota made big slow speed 1.5hp 3phase 10" pedestal one.

Wissota mostly made their grinders as OEM for other companies like Rockwell / Delta which is what mine is branded as. My industrial one does have full cast wheel guards and is industrial grade in every way.

The guards don't bother me so much, as I would probably run without them.... I am looking for a grinder to run wire wheels on. But I really appreciate the observation, in the future that is a quick and easy way to assess the quality of a component. Still there is something about the design that just does it for me.... might have to see how low I can get this guy/gal.
