Evening all,

I have an old drill of my dads that just doesn't work anymore. The meatl coolig blades inside are all tore up and it just makes a bunch of noise plus the chuck is kinda froze up.

I know I can buy a new one for less than it would take to repair one, but it is a sentimental thing.

I found an identical one at an auction. It works great and is in very nice condition. Only thing is the chuck is really loose. I don't know if its the bushing that the shaft rides on that is connected to the chuck or what. It doesn't look like there is a way to tighten the chuck. It actually feels like something is loose up in the front of the drill. When you grab the chuck and wiggle it, the commutator at the back end does not move at all. Its solid there. Just sloppy at the front. Is there a way to rebuild or tighten this up?

Thank you and happy belated holiday.

Sid

City jack trying to read the label at that position is very hard on my eyes, any way you could write down the model numbers and any other information in order to do a web search for more information. (or turn the picture).

Typing in 1/4 wizard drill is just not cutting the mustard as they say! I need something more to go on.

websearch doesn't bring up much, mostly that it's a western auto product. Also it might have something to do with the lord of the rings.

Thank you for the help everyone. No idea if my chuck comes off or do I have to take the front end off to see how to get the chuck off?

Thank you again.

chuck is probably threaded on left hand. open jaws fully and look for a screw in the back. Remove it. Tighten chuck on a allen key and then smack allen key with a hammer to loosen.

That usually works. When it doesn't, use a hex bit socket on an impact wrench. Much better smacking. Hasn't failed me yet.
