I borrowed one for an odd bolt and now I'm convinced I can't live without a set. I was hoping to get feedback on type/brand/size/drive/chrome/impact etc...

I work on small cars and SUVs (specifically Hyundai, ATM). Rarely have anything bigger than a Sante Fe on my lift, occasionally a f-150 sized vehicle. What do you think would be best to start with?

Thanks. also any particulars I should avoid?

Matco ones are awesome. I have a set of snap on, sk, gearwrench, Matco ADV, kobalt, and craftsman. All the impacts are good. Chromed wear out. Usually the pin walks out. The pinless Marco are my favorite.

Why do you have 10 sets of these?

I prefer impact myself and pinless are my favorite. I would not waste money on Matco unless you have a truck stopping by your place. Go with Craftsman or Gearwrench.

I'd probably start with a metric impact set. Maybe 3/8", unless you think you'll use 1/2" more. I only have a 3/8" set and it seems to be good enough, though there are SOME occasions where I need a 1/2" set too.

I have an SK set, but they're pinned, and I did shatter a pin on one. However, that was because I had an adapter on it and had it attached to my 2235timax on full power at probably around 145psi of shop air. So I can't complain about them. If I could go back, though, I'd probably buy pinless. Matco, Armstrong, and Gearwrench sell pinless. SK said something about pinless in the future, and IDK about Snap On.

I use 1/2 drive Armstrong's with my Craftsman C3 impact wrench and love them. Got them brand new in the sealed package at a yard sale for $4 each, one of my best scores.

Armstrong/Matco/Gearwrench pinless are the best for impact sockets. Smallest/most compact. I use Sunex collared ones right now but am saving up to upgrade to the pinless ones.

Snap On for chrome. Hopefully you won't have to use them daily but there will be times you will need the hell out of them.

All wear out so make sure you can warranty fairly easily.

For smaller cars you night want to check out wobble extensions. The kind with no moving parts, they just have steeper angles and let the socket move around.http://m.harborfreight.com/9-pc-wobble-socket-extension-set-67971.html

For the normal kind i have a mix of sk and hft they all work the same for me. I like the pin because if it snaps or wears out i just knock it out with a punch. Knock a new one in or crack the old loose one with the ballpein and tighten it up.
