Trying to find out whether this is worth adding to my small collection of vises. For sale locally for $70.00 seems to be in good shape and working condition. I’m a newby so go easy on me. Tried researching this online. Can’t find a whole lot of information. It looks like they quit making them possibly in the 70s.

Thanks,

Except for some surface rust in a few places, that one looks to be in excellent condition. Some may thing $70 is a bit too much to pay, I‘d say that in many Urban areas, it‘s a fair price.
Woden vises are heavy and solid and well built.

In general, The Garage Journal is a very poor place to find anyone to tell you NOT to buy a specific tool. 😎

I already have almost 100 bench vises, but did I ask on GJ whether or not I should buy another one (which I did last week?) NOPE !
Would it have mattered if I said that it was marked with a manufacturer nobody ever heard of and that it was missing a jaw insert and that it was rusted up tight? NOPE !

The majority of the vise aficionados would have said get in your car right now and get it.

I wanted to say thank you to the people that commented I really appreciate the knowledge in this forum. This vise has very minimal surface rust and will cleanup very nice. Jaws are in excellent shape slide is prefect condition no cracks and a really unique two piece rotating base.

My initial thought was that $70 was ”all the money”, but I’m in the U.K. where supply is more plentiful, and even here prices are creeping up.

Given the condition (which is rather good), the addition of the swivel base, and the fact that it’s a Woden (which I particularly like) I think you have done the right thing!

Should you elect to repaint it, replacement transfers are available in the U.K.

Unless someone starts making decent usable vices new, the prices of good used ones are only going one way.
